Can I just delete installer packages once the software is installed?

When I download some shareware, like an antivirus program, and it's a self-extractor or installer package, can I just delete the old package (after it it's installed and created its own file in the program folder)? I ask this because my 'downloads' folder has lots of old .exe applications in it like for torrent programs, video decoders etc. This may be an obvious question but it'd be annoying if the programs needed the original file to function and I binned them all. I like what computers do, but I don't pretend to understand them very well. thanks all

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes you can delete them once the program is installed. You might want to keep some as a backup if you want to uninstall them one day and reinstall them.
  3. Go ahead and delete after use
  4. yes delete by almeans but if you are not sure burn them to a disc then in the event your system crashes you have then to reinstall again
  5. Yes, you can safely delete the installers once the program is installed. No, programs don't use the installers to run. Sometimes the installer is used when you uninstall the program. I have a few programs on my computer that use the same executable (.exe) file to install and uninstall them. If you have a program like that (not all of them are like that) all you'd need to do is download the installer again. It just takes a little time. Deleting the installer packages will free up space on your computer which can make your computer a little faster.
  6. ya sure
